Step by Step Guide for CAPTIVEWORKS & Private Server W/OUT DONGLE
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
CAPTIVEWORKS 600, 650, 700 & 800 FOR Private Server
FOR DIRECT CONNECTION W/OUT A DONGLE
1. These instructions and file download are for connecting your CaptiveWorks Receiver to this IKS provider using a direct connection via a NULL MODEM CABLE to your PC. These instructions are valid for all CaptiveWorks receivers with the exception of the Ultima and HD boxes.
2. Every step required to use your Captiveworks with this IKS provider is explained in detail. The entire setup process is quite simple and should take less then 1 hour from start to finish. If you wish to begin viewing TV in the shortest possible time it is imperative that you carefully follow the instructions in this guide. Do not deviate nor skip any of the steps.
IMPORTANT! READ BEFORE PRECEEDING FURTHER
TO PREVENT POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO YOUR CW, SWITCHES OR LNB's
ALWAYS TURN YOUR RECEIVER OFF USING THE REAR SWITCH WHEN ATTACHING OR REMOVING CABLES. PREFERABLY THE UNIT SHOULD BE UNPLUGED WHEN CONNECTING OR REMOVING ANY CABLE TO OR FROM IT.
REQUIRED
1. NULL MODEM CABLE or if your computer does NOT have a DB9 RS232 COM port you can use a USB to SERIAL ADAPTER combined with your NULL MODEM CABLE. If using a USB to SERIAL ADAPTER you must install the correct driver for your specific adapter and for your OS (version of Windows). The cable that came with your CaptiveWorks is a NULL MODEM CABLE - A STRAIGHT THROUGH SERIAL CABLE WILL NOT WORK.
2. RQ-SSSP-CLIENT SOFTWARE. The rq-sssp-client.conf file included in the download using the following link has been modified specifically for CaptiveWorks receivers. Specific instructions have been added to the configuration file to simplify the editing process.Download the software below.
For cw 700 & 800 use the new files, no problem with CAID
STEP by STEP INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1. UNZIP THE RQ SOFTWARE
Unzip the RQ software package you downloaded and you will have 2 files
rq-sssp-client.exe and rq-sssp-client.conf
STEP 2. VERIFY YOUR FILE EXTENSIONS ARE VISIBLE
In order to edit and properly save your rq-sssp-client.conf it is important that you are able to view file extensions on your computer.
Open up Windows Explorer click on Tools > Folder Options > View
If the box which says "Hide extensions for known file types" is CHECKED then click on it to UNCHECK It and then click on apply and then where it says Folder views click on Like current folder.
STEP 3. VERIFY COM PORT # and SETTINGS
VERIFY COM PORT #
To check your COM PORT go to CONTROL PANEL > SYSTEM > DEVICE MANAGER > [+] PORTS click on [+] you will see COM (port#) If you are using a USB to SERIAL ADAPTER you will see "Prolific USB-to-Serial Com Port (COM#)" If the port# shown is other than the number "1" it will have to be edited into the rq-sssp-client.conf file.
If your COM port is NOT in device manager and your PC has a DB9 RS232 connector then you must REBOOT your computer, open up your BIOS and ENABLE your com port. If using a USB to SERIAL ADAPTER and do NOT see "Prolific USB-to-Serial Com Port (COM#)" the driver for your adapter has not been properly installed on your PC and must be installed or reinstalled or it will not work.
VERIFY PORT SETTINGS
RIGHT click COM (port#) > properties > port settings and they should be 115200 8 none 1 none if not use the drop down menu and change them to those values.
STEP 4. EDIT THE RQ-SSSP-CLIENT.CONF FILE
The following info must be edited into your rq-sssp-client.conf file.
1. COM PORT # if it is other than "1"
2. Your 14 digit ACCESS CODE.
3, The name of the SERVER included in the email with your access code.
4. PORT # for the Server included in the email with your access code.
Editing these items, the COM PORT, YOUR ACCESS CODE, SERVER and the PORT ADDRESS into your rq-sssp-client.conf file are explained in detail below. You should NOT make any other changes to the rq-sssp-client.conf file at this time.
Open NOTEPAD and MAXIMIZE the WINDOW
Go to MENU > FILE > OPEN and you get the open dialogue box. In the "Files of type" drop down menu select All Files (See Figure A) or you will not see the rq-sssp-client.conf file as notepad defaults to show only files with the .txt extension.
NOTE: When editing the conf file be careful to NOT remove any of the special characters that exist between the various fields such as _ = . : @ / if you do so or add in a single space anywhere in this line IT WILL NOT WORK.
In NOTEPAD with your WINDOW MAXIMIZED Edit the following:
A. YOUR COM PORT
If Device Manager verified your PC COM PORT AS COM "1" you may skip this step. If you com port number was other than "1" scroll down to the line that says: serial_port=COM1 and change the "1" to # shown in device manager.
B. Enter your NFPS ACCESS CODE
Enter your ACCESS CODE into the card_server_url_1 line which is the last line of this file. Replace twice (example below) youraccesscode with your 14 digit access code. Make sure you do not inadvertantly remove the : that seperate the two access codes.
C. Change SERVER
Replace fenfui.dynsite.net with the server that you were instructed to use when you received your access code.
D. Change your PORT #
Edit the port number by replacing the ##### with one of the 5 digit port #'s that you received with your access code.
The port numbers and servers you were initially assigned are subject to change. Should your service be interupted the first step you should do is check the announcement forum at this site to see if there are new port or server assignments. If this occurs simply re-edit your conference file with the latest port info and save as instructed below.
E. VERIFY EOF (INVISIBLE END OF FILE CHARACTER)
IMPORTANT !! Before you SAVE this file as instructed below, verify the EOF by placing your cursor at the end of the card_server_url line immediately after the 4 now hit the right arrow key on your keyboard and the cursor should drop to next line - if it does not, then with the cursor after the 4 hit the return key once and the cursor will now drop to the next line causing an eof to be entered. The .conf file will not work if this is not included.
F. VERIFY YOUR EDITING
The last line of your .conf file should now look like the example below, except it should now have your actual access code inserted twice with a : between them and the server you were instructed to use along with one of the port numbers you were assigned to replace the #####.
The card_server_url line file has NO SPACES between fields and when you open it in NOTEPAD (window maximized) it should be on ONE LINE. The reason it appears on two lines in these instructions is due to width limitations on forum posts.
EXAMPLE of card_server_url line:
card_server_url_1=newcamd://youraccesscode:youraccesscode@ fenfui.dyn site.net:#####/6103403445406970987123412134
STEP 5. SAVING and PLACEMENT OF FILES
Once you have edited this file you need to SAVE it as a .conf file. It is IMPORTANT that you follow the next instructions EXACTLY as written.
In NOTEPAD go to MENU > File > Save AS and the Save as dialogue box will appear. (See Figure B)
A. Create New Folder for the RQ software
The Save as Dialogue box has 4 drop down menu boxes. The first is at the top and it says "Save in". Use that dropdown menu of "Save in" to select your "C" drive or you may use any partition you wish. Then you should create a NEW FOLDER by clicking on the "create new folder" icon (See Figure B). After clicking on the new folder icon you will then see a folder appear with the words new folder. I named my folder CW but you can call it anything you wish. After you type in the name of the folder hit the enter key twice. Once saves the name and the second opens the folder. You should now see the name of your new folder in the "Save in" box at the top.
B. Save the edited rq-sssp-client.conf file
The next 3 drop down menu boxes are at the bottom of the Save as dialogue box. These 3 boxes should read EXACTLY as shown in Figure B and written below to properly save this file with the correct name and format (configuration file - *.conf)
File name: rq-sssp-client.conf
Save as type: All Files
Encoding: ANSI
Click on SAVE and you can now EXIT out of NOTEPAD.
C. File Placement - Placing both files in the same folder
Find the file rq-sssp-client.exe which was included in the zip file you downloaded and copy this file to the new folder that you just saved your edited re-sssp-client.conf file in. Both the rq-sssp-client.conf file and the rq-sssp-client.exe file MUST BE IN THE SAME FOLDER ON YOUR PC
STEP 6. SIMPLIFY STARTING THE PROTOCOL
Each time you shut down your PC you will have to restart the file rq-sssp-client.exe - To simplify this task go to the NEW FOLDER where the file rq-sssp-client.exe is and right click on that file and select create a shortcut. After the shortcut shows up in the folder drag and drop it onto your quick launch bar. Now you can easily start the protocol with a single click of your mouse.
STEP 7. SETTING UP YOUR CW and CONNECTING TO NFPS
1. With your CW OFF (rear switch off) Connect your CW to your television.
2. With your CW off attach the cable from your dish (diseqc switch) to your CW. Turn on the rear switch and then the front switch of your CW. With a good quality signal do an autoscan on each satellite you use.
3. Switch off your CW using the rear switch and connect it to your computer's DB9 RS232 serial (com) port via a NULL MODEM CABLE. If your computer does not have a DB9 COM port you can use a USB to SERIAL ADAPTER and your NULL MODEM CABLE. THE DRIVER FOR FOR THIS ADAPTER and YOUR PARTICULAR WINDOWS OS MUST ALSO BE INSTALLED ON YOUR PC. Turn the rear switch on and the front switch of your CW on.
4. Enable Card Share: PRESS f1 ON YOUR REMOTE AND THEN 555
Note: If you enter 555 and the unit DISABLES Card Share then hit f1 again and then 555 to ENABLE it.
5.. Enable Patch: PRESS f1 ON YOUR REMOTE AND THEN 000
Note: If you enter 000 and the unit DISABLES the Patch then hit f1 again and then 000 to ENABLE it.
6. Turn Autoroll OFF: MENU > SYSTEM SETTINGS > OSD > AUTOROLL OFF
7. With your TV and your CW on set it to a channel which is an active nfps channel. Example: 300 for 119w
8. Click once on the shortcut icon (rq) in the quick launch bar for rq-sssp-client.exe and you will get a black window on your pc screen (RQ CONSOLE) which will contain status information.
STEP 8. FIXING THE CAID MISMATCH
Fixing the CAID mismatch The Captiveworks receivers have a CAID mismatch that keeps the channels scrambled. The only fix short of purchasing a dongle is as follows:
After you have started the rq-sssp-client.exe file using your Captiveworks remote and while tuned into a channel that you wish to watch
a. push the PAGE UP button on your CW remote (this is 1 button up from the bottom right of the remote). You will now see on your TV screen some CAID information.
b. push the CH (-) or DOWN ARROW to highlight the SECOND CAID line
c. push the OK button
d. push the EXIT button.
Your channel should come in within 1 minute. Unfortunately at the moment you will have to do this everytime you change channels, however hitting pageup, downarrow, ok and exit really only takes a few seconds.
LAST STEP
Enjoy your CAPTIVEWORKS Receiver which once again is providing you entertainment via this IKS provider.
