Ciel 2 set to replace Echo 5

Ciel Satellite announced in March 2006, that Alcatel Alenia Space has been chosen to construct a new spacecraft to be known as Ciel-2. The geosynchronous satellite will be operated by Ciel from 129 degrees West and deliver services throughout North America.

Alcatel will build the Spacebus-4000C4 spacecraft based on proven technology that has been utilized in four successfully deployed satellites. The C4 will be the largest Spacebus class satellite ever built. A number of innovations will also complement the design; the all Ku-band satellite will feature high frequency re-use and both regional and spot beams. The Ciel-2 satellite is scheduled to launch on December 10 from Kazakhstan and to operate for at least 16 years. Ciel Satellite was awarded the license for 129 degrees West from Industry Canada in October 2004.

For HD users this is great news as it will replaced that bucket of bolts they consider a satellite, EchoStar 5. They will actually televise the launch on channel 101, I think at around 8 or 9 in the morning.

I got to watch the video of the launch on www.ilslaunch.com It's pretty interesting! So my question is, once Ciel II is in position, will it automatically take over Echostar 5's stations or will there be some sorta long drawn out transfer period? I looked around and didn't really find anything about what's going to happen to Echostar 5 and all the HD channels. Just out of curiosity, would there have to be a code update to get Ciel II or a scan of the birds?
