Default General Connections for Devices

C/P by Snowman

So alot of people ask how to connect..
here is some basics...

You can hardwire from your router to your device.. If you have a cable or dsl modem of some sort and do not run a router I would suggest you do so as the newer ones have firewalls built into them to help protect you..

the first attachment (hardwire) shows the easiest way to connect the device... its just direct wire right from the device to the router..

the second attachment (wireless) shows wireless connection..

Now I'll explain a bit more..

You need a few things to make this work easy and trouble free...

Hardwire

Router Attached to your modem (you need to have more than 1 port and most modems only have 1 for your PC.
Goto Walmart or your favorite store and buy a router. (follow directions to set it up its easy.) If you cant figure it out I'm sure you can find someone that can.
by some cable to reach from your device to your router. 1 cable don't try to join a few together.
device you want to hook up.

So one you got the router installed and your PC works on the internet you are good to go ahead and finish up
run the wire to the device
plug both ends of the wire in 1 to the device the other to you router.

Magic it works. !!!

Simple enough

Wireless...

Again if your don't have a wireless router for your cable or DSL modem GO Buy one !!!

Configure wireless router is the first step... Follow the directions provided with it it is simple and easy...
Get yourself a bridge. this is the one I would use TRENDnet Wireless N Gaming Adapter TEW-647GA it's like $ 50.00
follow the directions to get the bridge connected to your wireless.. ( i suggest you put some kind of security so others don't steal your wireless connection.)
one you can see the bridge connected then plug the device into the bridge.

magic It should work !

now for those of you that run dial up or cell cards for internet.

If you run either of these its going to be a pain in the butt... you will have to be connected all the time for these kind of devices to work..
If you must do it. there are some routers (i have not seen them in awhile tho) that will keep a dial up connection connected..

Cellcards in laptops. usb sticks whatever you want to call them... Same deal you could make it work by bridging the cell card to the lan port on the laptop and then hardwired from the lan port to the device (you will need a crossover LAN cable a standard one WILL NOT WORK) but again its going to have to be on all the time..

Other types of connections.

Classified as open networks, hotspots, etc you know the free interent that you can connect to with your laptop without paying for it from your living room: IE, you live next to starbucks, or a laundymart, or your nice neighbor has no clue how to secure his wireless so you get to surf for free...

easiest way for this is !!! get yourself something like this !! TRENDnet Wireless N Gaming Adapter TEW-647GA set it up and try getting your laptop connected with it to the free network and then one it works plug it into your device.

Set it up and test it with your laptop network port and make sure your laptop wireless is turned off so you don't have problems and you know when its connected.

Hope this helps some one...
