And as starbuck mentioned 129W is a HD bird, if you have a HD receiver definitely worth aiming at but it's useless for a SD box.

So if I had one of these Dish and don't connect a line to sat 129w will it function properly? I do see in the illustration that there is some type on external switch or what is that and do I need it?

Yes it will work without sat 129,external switch is discq switch you get every time you buy a new receiver but with dishpro it's not needed as it has built in switch.
