My thoughts on recent iLink happenings

My thoughts on recent iLink happenings Let me start by saying...these are just my thoughts...because things look very screwy to me...so I want to see what others think.
1. Rumors about dropping support of some iLink models. Has it happened?
Remember a while back there were rumors running around the fta world that there would be no more support for the 200 series iLink receivers? Well, that seems to have taken place....and people accepted it.
And now there is the outage that started this past weekend (around Feb. 26, 2011) and pretty much all IKS supported brands/models went down, and several are still down as of the time I am writing this (March 1, 2011). Satzen, X-Factor and some of the iLink models are back up, back to the status they had before the outage.
Notice I said SOME of the iLink models. The ones that are back up are the 9000, 9000+, and the 9500. Most noticeable to me and several others is the fact that the 8000 model has not been brought back to life. And nobody seems to know why....or at least they are not saying.
A couple of weeks ago there were rumors of the demise of public IKS support for the IS8000, and now there is no new file for it.
Is this the end of the line for public support for the IS8000? Is the iLink gang pulling a stunt like the nFusion crew did a while back and dropping support for one of their most popular models in hopes that iLink faithful will buy the newer models? Wow...if that is the case...it really makes me wonder about the smarts of these guys. My gut feeling tells me the IS8000 is done for as far as being supported on public IKS...time will tell I suppose.
2. The sudden shut down of the iLink forum. What really happened?
Let me start by saying that I never made a post there. But I read...and a lot...had to tape my hands to legs a few times to keep from typing responses to some of the BS comments that were made about me there. But it would not have been worth the hassle...and I had friends there taking up for me.
The next thing I have to admit...I have never been a fan of richiemiami, nor most of the folks he had on as staff there. Most people that followed me on FTABINS already knew that. But that is water under the bridge. I am going to post my thoughts on what happened to the iLink forum...I do not know for sure...maybe richie will show up and clear a few things up. But the way it went down strikes me as odd.
I have been around the FTA game for many years...seen a lot of things happen. Seen a ton of sites come and go. And sadly, most of the ones that have gone recently have been due to provider takeover. And before the iLink forum died, richiemiami came and made his goodbye post. See below.

Here's a c/p from richiemiami
The powers that be are pushing to close the doors and I just want to let you know with my own words, by my own persuasion Goody Bye
I could go on and on about why this forum WAS so special but instead want to leave these words for you guys
say what you like one last time about this forum:
From every staff member, to the quests that never joined but read laughed and learned.... the journey continues
richiemiami
What really throws up a red flag to me is the fact that richie eludes to the fact that the providers (DN and Bev) are the powers that be that that encouraged him to close the doors. I don't think that is the case. Because of all the sites that I have seen go down to the providers, the guys running them never had a chance to say goodbye...the sites have just disappeared with a redirect to Satscams. And as a rule the owner's internet privileges are all but revoked. And for the iLink forum, no redirect, and we still see richiemiami posting all over the place as richiemiami....so either he has balls the size of grapefuits or is very stupid...because I do not think an intelligent man would throw it right back into the face of the providers and their legal teams in this manner. And if richie wants to say the providers told him to shut it down...well...again, I will have to call bullsh1t on him.
So what happened to the iLink forum? Here are my two theories...mine and mine alone as far as I know.
Theory 1....The iLink team is the powers that be that told him to shut it down. If that's the case, why? To maybe not draw as much attention to themselves as a site does? Can't blame them for that. Because they knew they were about to drop support for probably the best selling receiver they ever had and did not want it there for folks to whine and cry on? Well...that is kinda crappy on their part if that is the case.
Theory 2....Richiemiami knew of the coming drop of public support for the 200 and 8000 series of receivers and was not happy about it. Remember...richie always touted these as the best receivers ever made....and bragged about how many he has sold to people. And maybe, just maybe, richie closed the iLink forum of his own free will as a form of protest again iLink for screwing over so many of his customers. Now that, in my opinion, would be the best thing he could have done. If its the case, kudos to you richie.
Maybe I am totally wrong about all of that. I don't know. Maybe richie miami will show up and clear things up for us all. Until then..the rumors section seemed to fit the best.
