Default Bad capacitor C-13 = no iHub connect, low or no quality, no satellite ID.

C/P

A friend call today and told me his iHub was not working on his SV8000HD.

He brought the unit over for me to have a look. I did the usual thinks like a factory reset, factory ROM, and then latest bin.

I still did not get “Network Adapter Connected” so I looked a little further and decided to scan the satellites back in. Well much to my surprise I had low signal and no quality on most TP's. On the odd TP I did get low signal and some quality but in the baby blue line in the aiming screen there was not satellite ID.

So I decided to double check if cap C-10 had been replaced... Well as I thought I did replace C-10 a year or so ago.

But on closer inspection I noticed capacitor C-13's metal was slightly risen on the top like bad electrolytic caps do (like C-10 fails). So I removed the capacitor which has a value of 2200uF rated at 10VDC. I replaced it with a 2200uF 16VDC cap.

So I reinstalled the power supply board and rebooted the unit.

There it was “Network Adapter Connected” and I had signal and quality back!

So to summarize the symptoms:

No iHub connect.

Low signal and no or poor quality on most TP's.

No satellite ID.

Bottom line about C-13 2200uF 10VDC cap should be replaced with 2200uF 16VDC cap. It is right beside a heat sink so I think over time we may see more failures of this cap.

Hope this helps someone.
