Here is some info i found on a site on how to convert the files created on the sv 8000 and it does work

I recorded a show last night on a HD channel . I plugged my harddrive into my computer and the files I recorded look like this ..
Show000.trp
Show000.001
Show000.002 * You Will need these files to rename to .ts & join & convert
Show000.003

Please Note: The larger the movie , the more files that will be created ..
IE: Show000.004,Show000.005,Show00 0.006,ETC....

Show000.idx
Show000.ifo * You Will not need these files
Show000.txt

The files are stored as follows:

Movie.trp - this is an MPEG-2 "transport stream" file.

Movie.001 continues right where the .trp file left off

You can take these files and convert each one to .ts (transport stream) using HDTVtoMPEG (or MPEG StreamClip) also .

You should have files like: movie.001.ts, movie.002.ts etc. when done ..

Irrelevant files:
Movie.idx - is normally for chapter points dont no what it is used for here
Movie.txt - EPG data for the program
Movie.ifo - is a dvd file again not sure of its purpose here

Movies Joined & Burnt To Dvd:

Grab the required files from your external harddrive from sv hd 8000 & now move them to your harddrive on your PC for the conversion process

Rename the (4) biggest files (in this example) to the extension (.ts) starting from the .trp file & ( also add .000 to original .trp file so it will be in a sequenced file order to match all the other files that will also need to be numbered in a sequenced order for this process to work ..The other files you just added .ts to end of file name , Now make sure they are all named the same & are all in a sequenced order of files (1,2,3,4) etc .....

IE: Show000.000,Show000.001,Show00 0.002,Show000.003,Sh ow000.004ETC ...

Use MPEG Streamclip program to batch join files
VERY IMPORTANT: save file as a mpeg conversion
Then play file afterwards in media player or a similar related program to test to verify it works & also just make sure you have updated your codecs first recently .

General Instructions:

open MPEG Streamclip program to batch join files
List tab
batch list
add files
Set selection to files type: (All files)
hold the control button down after locating the 4 needed files (in this example) & selecting files from last to first in sequenced order
check both of the tabs: fix timecode breaks & join all the files
click OK
save in your desired located area on PC
click the go tab
let process finish & close out the first window & the other window as we are through with Mpeg streamClip at this point & then play the saved file again in your media player now or a similar related program & just make sure you will be able to play the saved video before converting & burning to a dvd now .

Conversion Process:

I like to use the convertXtodvd program as it will convert the files to a vob file (dvd format) and then also pick it up and burn it to a dvd all in 1 simple process , but you can also utilize the dvd shrink & dvd decrypter program(s) after the initial conversion has been completed at this point ..

This Works perfectly for me & the dvd has no skips or unsynced audio or video dropouts where the 4 files were joined together either . Also this will decrease the total size from over 5.4 gb in file size to just about 3 gb on the dvd that has been converted in this example shown above ..
