Smile Help on SonicView HD 8000

Hi Everybody'
I am new to FTA and need help with dish pointing. I have the Dish 1000.2 and the Sonicview HD 8000 with the 8psk card installed. No matter where I point the dish, my signal never goes above 40 to 41 and the "Q' is always zero. my zip code is 90605, I set the AZ. to 168, ELEV. to 49, Skew 92.
I have been reading and reading and tried all that I read but still no signal over 40.
Thanks a million
Doug

Sounds like you may have not pointed at a correct direction or the dish settings are wrong.

You can use this website to help you find the correct direction : http://www.dishpointer.com

I went and entered the zip code provided and this is how your dish should be adjusted:

Dish Setup Data
Latitude: 33.9502°
Longitude: -118.0362°
Name: Dish 1000.2 (110W, 119W, 129W)
Distance: 37050km
Motor Latitude: 34.0°
Declination Angle: 5.5°

Dish Elevation: °
Elevation: 50.5°
Azimuth (true): 181.7°
Azimuth (magn.): 168.9°
LNB Skew: 1.4°
Dish Skew: 91.4°

Question Signal still low, No "Q"

Hi Zero Gravity,
Thanks for getting the info to me. I adjusted the dish pretty close to the specs, but still get the same readings on different satellite chioces. I think maybe the LNB's (their new) might be bad. Is there any way of testing the LNB? I have to admit that I connected and disconnected the RG6 cable from the LNB's while the receiver was still on (not thinking). Think I might had spiked it? Maybe I have to relocate the dish. It is mounted on the south side wall of the house where the Direct TV dish used to be. I was thinking of putting it on the roof, but just got a new roof and didn't want to make holes in it. I can mount it to a vent pipe I guess. Well,
Thanks Again,
Doug Ray

The LNB wont go bad if you disconnect the cable with the receiver on, but the switch will. As long as you are not pointed at the house the dish location should be fine.

Maybe your dish settings need to be adjusted.

Are you using a switch?

Here is some info on your dish: http://www.ftaprofessionals.tv/showthread.php?t=466

Question Reply to Zero Gravity

I am not using a add on switch. I understand that the 1000.2 has a built-in switch and you only have to use one cable on any of the ports. Is this true? This is why I think I might have blown the internal switch by connecting while the receiver was on. Is there a way to test it?
Thanks,
Doug

According to picture below is the proper setup for the 1000.2.I do not have that dish But I would think you could use a regular 4X1 diseqc switch. It does show a switch being used.Using one cable should let you be able to home in on one sat.My receivers confirm that I am locked on the sat I am trying to get and it will also show that I am on wrong sat.
