Default HD8000 no signal

I just purchased a SV HD8000 and a D.N.1000.2 dish to replace our old sv4000. We upgraded our old coaxial from rg-59 to rg-6, put up the dish and got 119 and 110 without much problem. 74/98 on s/q on both birds. scanned for channels, saved them, but when we went to watch tv we got "scrambled or no signal" So I thought we should put in the latest fix. Got the fix on flash drive downloaded it onto the hd8000 and it got stuck on "boot". We found out about "force boot" by turning off the rear switch and holding menu button down....then read that the bin file should have been FAT32 not FAT16 oops!
what did I do? Now when you check s/q you get 5/0. I took down the new dish and put up the old single and got the same reading. so i hooked up the sv4000 and got 74/98 on that STB. how much trouble am I in? and where do I start to fix it? Holding my breath, J

You will have to do a Factory Reset on your STB to bring it back to life. After factory reset is done your receiver will be like new again so will have to set up your sat's and everything else again. Once you are finished loading factory file you will need to load the latest fix again in order to watch TV. There is a Read Me file included in this folder, read everything carefully and follow all the instructions and you should be up and running in no time.

Here is the link to all files and instructions you are going to need in order to do a full factory reset on your SV 8000. The folder also includes Full channel template you can use if you like but don't have too. http://ftaprofessionals.tv/showthread.php?t=1554

Note:
- Always use Remove Device Safely function in USB Menu before remove USB drive (thumb drive/USB HDD)
- Always format USB thumb drive before any update
- Do not extract file direct on to the UBS thumb drive, extract to a folder then copy to USB thumb drive.
- Do a hard reboot (power OFF-ON using rear switch) after every update.

Good luck and let us know if you need more help.

Thanks for you prompt reply. We did as you said and after downloading the first file it asked if we wanted to reboot. We said no because we understood you to say that we needed to turn the receiver off using the switch on the back. We removed the stick via the remove safely function and then turned the receiver off using the switch on the back. After 30 seconds we turned it back on and the menu had changed. The USB section now only had two items listed. One is File List and the other is Scan Disk. The File List shows nothing in it, so we reinserted the stick. It immediately goes to booting where it stays. After waiting quite a while (maybe 5 minutes) we turned the machine off via the switch on the back and removed the stick. It seems that we're stuck. Can you help us again??? Thanks, Janell

Did you guys format your USB stick before using it again. It needs to be formatted every time after it has been used. But forget the USB stick for now. When you purchased your SV 8000 u received a Null Cable with it. Now go into menu on your remote control and do factory reset on your receiver, after that is done take it to your pc and connect null cable from your pc to the back of the receiver. On your Loader select PC TO STB option and start downloading the Factory file ( do not interrupt download and let the stb reboot by it self ) once you loaded factory file do the same with the latest fix for SV 8000 let it reboot again. Now hook it up to your tv set up your sat's, ports, time zone etc and do a sat scan. That should get you up and running again. Don't bother with channel list and that other stuff for now. Let me know if you need more assistance and leave your feedback. Good luck

Next mystery......when we go into factory reset all it does is bring up a box that has what looks like a key and a spot for you to enter some sort of code. What to do next???

Hmmm, it appears that I'm screwed because the null cable has a serial connection and my computer only has one like it. And of course my monitor is connected to it. I'd imagine that I can probably purchase some sort of connector that would work. Right?

We found another computer that has the correct port, but I have another question. When you refer to the "loader", what do you mean? I'm not certain where/how I will have the option to select PC to STB. Sorry to be such a dunce when it comes to this stuff. Thanks for your help. Janell

Maybe you can try this first :

Plug USB stick into pc
Open my computer
There should be a new icon under the removable storage section (drive letter) mines J: yours may be different
Right click it and select format
A new box should open up for formatting
Click on where it says FAT and select FAT32
Hit start

It may help if your not sure to open up my computer first and check the drive letters and watch for the new 1 .

The use of USB-sticks

As save-medium of the next decennium the USB memory stick seems to have claimed its place. They are reliable, fast and they offer more space than a floppy-disk.

It is possible that your USB-stick does not work on this workplace. Not all USB-sticks will function correctly.

Connect the USB-stick, before logging on, to the cable that can be found on the desk.

The USB-stick will now be recognised as an extra (removeable) hard disk.
The D-drive.
This can be seen in the lower rightside of your screen, next to the time indication, where this icon has appeared:

You can access the data on your USB-stick in different ways.

Notice:
You have connected the USB-stick but can not access the files on the stick. If a (Word, Excel) citrixsession is open, close this session first.
Now open a new (Word)session. The files on the stick will now be visible.

Accessing the USB-stick through the explorer:
a) Open the Explorer through:
b) Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> Explorer.
c) Go to My Computer.
d) Press the <F5> button (refresh) and the D:drive becomes visible.

Accessing the USB-stick through Word (or another application):
a) Open the Word file.
b) Go to File --> Open (you are now in the My documents folder)

c) Go to My Computer.
d) Press the <F5> button (refresh) and the D:drive becomes visible.

Click on the D: drive, the files on the USB-stick are now accessible.

When you want to save a file back on your USB-stick, you will first have to save it on 'My Documents'.

Then you can open 'My Documents' to cut and paste your file to the D:drive (the drive of the USB-stick).
You can also drag the file to this screen (hold left mouse button).

After use the memory stick can be removed. To ensure that all data is written properly to the stick, this can best be done in a "proper" manner.

By clicking on the icon once, the following text appears
Savely Remove USB Mass Storage Device-Drive (D

Click on this text and the following message appears:
Save to Remove Hardware

The memory stick will now be correctly closed and you can safely remove the stick. When you do not do it this way, your stick can possibly be damaged. We are not responsible for any damage.

Here is the steps to revive your receiver if it gets "stuck on booting" where the display stays on booting and doesn't complete and reboot.

1. Do a clean FAT32 format on your USB stick.
2. Load the latest update bin file to the USB stick.
You can download the latest update bin from here: http://www.ftaprofessionals.tv/showt...=2426#post2426

3. Turn the rear power switch on the receiver OFF.
4. Plug your USB stick into the receivers USB port.
5. Now do a forced load by pressing and holding the MENU key on the front panel of the receiver ( not the remote ) and at the same time switch the rear power switch ON. Continue to hold the MENU button until you see "LOAD USB" on the front panel then release Menu button. It will then boot from the USB stick.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When using this step, please make sure there are nothing else in the device besides the latest bin file (That is the reason behind the clean FAT32 reformat).

Cable that is connected to your monitor ( looks like the null modem cable ) is not the correct cable so you will need to use the other computer if you decide to go with a loader.

Good luck
