Making sure you set up the windows recording properties correctly rather than just the playback properties.
Control Panel>Sounds Speech & Audio Devices>Sounds and Audio Devices>Audio Tab>Sound Recording>Click on volume and make sure line in is checked if you are recording from a device connected to the sound-card's line-in input or stereo mix/wave if you are recording from the sound-card direct i.e internet radio broadcast.
