DNS ip, Security, Retry Timeout & WIZ
C/P from a good friend.
Since there seem to still be some confusion between SV users as of what should they use here's my take after last events :
As DNS ip : Box should be set for DHCP and DNS ip will be populated by DHCP server in router with the fastest responder DNS server for your area and that would be the way to go.
Those using Static should perform bellow test and check if ISP really blocks access as DHCP is the better way
If box doesn't provide picture on a known working ch. ( 200 CNN or 300 HBO-E ) within 10-15 minutes following test should be performed :
In a command prompt window type " nslookup t.svftaiks.net "
A "Non-authoritative answer :, Name : t.svftaiks.net, Address 94.75.221.109 " message should be displayed.
If the above is displayed, ISP is not blocking your connection to SV server.
Those using Static should perform the test and check if ISP really blocks access as DHCP is the better way
If instead of the above message there are a bunch of "DNS request timed out" or "DNS request error" are displayed, there's a big chance that ISP is blocking your access and the test should be re-run using " nslookup t.svftaiks.net x.x.x.x ", where x.x.x.x is the ip of a public DNS server such 8.8.8.8 ( check dnsserverlist.org for a list of available DNS servers )
At this point the above message should be displayed, box should be set up to use Static instead of DHCP and the address used as x.x.x.x should be used as DNS ip.
In doing so there's a chance that "Local IP", previously attributed by DHCP to be issued by the router to another device in your network, so it's recommended to use as "Local IP" addresses that are not in router poll range.
If there's a conflict of ip addresses in your network malfunctions WILL happen.
Say router poll range it's 100 - 149 ( most used ) than use .99 or .150 for your iHub "Local IP"
Security is currently enforced by SV server but not in the way we all knew it until last bins were released.
Therefore iHub with MAC addresses ( under board list in WIZ ) that don't start with 00:90:BC will not work.
You might swap two different iHubs in the same unit and it'll work as long as the swap takes place while receiver is powered down.
After reboot the new MAC will be acknowledged by box and unit will work without any need of loading old files, correct serial number .....
Retry timeout is something that nobody knows what exactly should do.
For a fact I can tell you what it DOESN'T DO.
It doesn't change the interval between DNS requests when connection is terminated and it doesn't affect the interval between cw requests.
So your guess is as good as mine, changing it for 3 to 20 made no difference for me.
When it works smooth it does regardless, when it freezes it does the same regardless of the value used.
For die hard fans of changing things in WIZNET don't bother using posted server ip in WIZ as it won't work anyway, or changing ports for that matter.
Again WIZNET only to be used to check iHub firmware version and MAC add under board list.
Nothing more.
Enjoy
