i recently bought my first receiver it's a vsat maxhd i have a direct tv 3lnb 18/20 have no clue what i'm doing where do i start

bryonjohnson7 there is your first problem that 3 head direct tv lnb will not work and is very hard to work with, reason being the lnb in the middle is nothing, the lnbs that work are on the outsides, which is two far apart for 110and 119 birds, those birds are 9 degree apart, therefore lnbs need to be side by side. You can home in one bird maybe with that dish, but your best bet is to get you a dish that has 2 seperate lnbs with it.

is there a particular dish you would recomend i live in southern indiana and i've heard rain and tree cover might be an issue can i maybe hook up one lnb for now until i can get another dish

You can play around with the dish you have and get some tv.Go to a local satellite dealer and buy a used Dn dish with 2 single lnb's.Right now even a DTV dish with a single will get 1 sat and in that case go for ES 110.0W it has more cnls.Yes for best reception you need a good view of the southern sky.

bryonjohnson7 if you use 1 lnb and go for 110 you need to run your cable from your receiver straight to that lnb and make sure your receiver is off by using switch on the back of receiver when you hook up cable. Turn your receiver on afterwards and then go into your setup menu with your remote control and look for sat. set up and in providers name find echostar 110 bird and set that and look and see if you have a beep/tone that you can turn up on that receiver so when you move your dish to bring in 110 you can hear it alart you by increased beep or tune volume. If you get the right bird/ you should see 110 showing up in your setup. You can go to this site http://satcalculator. freehostia. com/ and pick your dish and 110 and inter your area code and it will tell you your settings for your dish. When you do get your dish set up and know you have signal then let us know and we can go from there
