Woman Beats Up Satellite TV Installer
Woman Beats Up Satellite TV Installer A MOTHER-of-three beat up a satellite TV installer when he offered her his tools to "do the job herself" after she complained about his work.
Adenike Olaiya (38) struck the technician about the face in the dispute over work he had carried out while installing Sky TV satellite system at her west Dublin home.
She admitted a charge of assaulting contractor Kelly O'Brien in the incident.
Judge Hugh O'Donnell struck the charge out after hearing the background to the row, and that Olaiya, a single mother, had since apologised.
Blanchardstown District Court heard that the victim had suffered minor facial injuries and "psychological trauma" following the attack.
Garda Niall Phelan said he was on duty at Blanchardstown Garda Station at 11.30am on October 9 when the victim came and made a complaint.
The technician was employed by Sierra Communications, who was contracted to install Sky television in homes in the area.
The dispute had arisen after he installed a package at the accused's home at Allendale Rise, Clonsilla, earlier that morning.
He left the house afterwards and she followed him to a neighbour's house and asked him to return.
She struck him several times, and a medical report on his injuries was presented to the court.
"An independent witness saw part of the attack as it spilled out into the garden," Garda Phelan said.
The accused accepted the assault had happened while the victim was "just doing his job", defence solicitor Martin Coen said.
After the victim had finished his work, the accused had concerns about a wire that was running around the fireplace and hanging loose.
When she asked him about this, he said he could not carry it out himself for insurance reasons.
"He volunteered his work tools and suggested that she do it herself," Mr Coen said.
"He then said maybe you should get a man to carry out the task.
"Things got out of hand and one thing led to another."
The court heard the accused had been offered a place in DIT Athlone to study dental nursing, but was hoping to attend Trinity College as she was a lone parent with three young children.
"This was a once-off," Mr Coen added, before the judge struck the charge out.
