Post Protests over Obama health reform

C/P from BBC News

Protests over Obama health reform

Protesters are angry at what they say is reckless public spending

Tens of thousands of people have marched from the White House to Capitol Hill in Washington to protest against Barack Obama's healthcare reforms.
The demonstrations came as the US president sought to boost support for his plans during a Minneapolis rally.
Addressing a crowd of 15,000, Mr Obama said he refused to accept no change on his top domestic priority.
He said he would not allow special interests to "use the same old tactics to keep things the way they are".
"I will not accept the status quo. Not this time. Not now," Mr Obama said in the democratic-leaning state, which has one of the country's smallest numbers of uninsured residents.
'Taxed to death'
But in Washington protesters attacked Mr Obama's administration for what it called out-of-control spending - on healthcare, the stimulus packages and the bailout of the banking and car industries.
Mr Obama said he will not allow special interests to dominate the debate

Healthcare in the US costs $2.2tn a year, or 16% of the country's GDP - nearly double the OECD average.
The protestors insist that spending tax dollars on a government-run health insurance option will increase inflation and lead the country to economic ruin.
"Born free, taxed to death," one protester's sign read while another, held up by an immigrant from Ukraine, said: "I had enough of socialism in the USSR."
The march - co-ordinated by the conservative grouping Freedomworks, a grassroots movement calling for lower taxes and smaller government - brought together protesters from across different states.
'Door open'
Days after urging Democrats and Republicans in Congress to work together, Mr Obama said his plan was open to ideas from across the political spectrum.
HEALTHCARE IN THE US
46 million uninsured, 25 million under-insured
Healthcare costs represent 16% of GDP, almost twice OECD average
Reform plans would require all Americans to get insurance
Some propose public insurance option to compete with private insurers

Q&A: US healthcare reform

"If you come to me with a serious set of proposals, I will be there to listen. My door is always open," he said.
He warned, though, that he would not waste time with those who believe: "it's better politics to kill this plan than improve it".
It is estimated that some 46 million Americans do not have health insurance, and a further 25 million are thought to have inadequate insurance.
The healthcare plans currently being considered in Congress are all attempting to expand coverage, while also reforming the system to prevent spiralling costs.
The bill would expand coverage to 97% of Americans, at a cost of some $600bn (£365bn).

Default Understand 100%

prndy I'm behind you all the way and understand where you are coming from. This insurance thing is out of line, it gets higher and higher each year and coverage gets lower and lower, I've seen 130.00 a week, no dental or eye included just medical and so many cuts in what is covered,it makes me sick. I've need surgery for quite a few years myself and insurance will not cover it all, saying part of it is cosmetic, which I think is bs, because it's the doctor the way he is sending the report to insurance because he doesn't want to take the cut by the insurance company. So either way you go, if it isn't the insurance company sticking it to you, then it's the doctor. My husband has that disability insurance and your right, it is really hard on a person that has to quite work and go on disability due to the pay is not that good and it is very hard to pay all your bills on what you are paid. I think a lot of us are in the same boat and a lot of us have no paddle as well You hang in there

Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right.Love the ones who do not, just because you can.Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands. If it changes your life, let it.Kiss slowly.Forgive quickly.God never said life would be easy.He just promised it would be worth it.

You do not have to be crazy to be my friend, but it sure helps.................

Default Sorry, here's my argument...

first, I am not talking about those that work hard and do their part. I'm not talking about people that are truely disabled and need care. And I do not have a problem with people coming to America to live, establish residence and become a citizen, work as we do, and partake in what we all work together to achieve. America is the land of dreams come true... freedom. I welcome all that want the same as I do, work just as hard as I have to put into it and deserve to get it in return when needed! The system abuse happens in all kinds of circumstances, not just with foreignors, not just with disability but in all areas of our system.
I managed a home health care company in Alabama for about 5 years, this was about 10 years ago. Just to mention an example of my argument(s); We had 2 clients, senior citizen - elderly, from India that we serviced for home health care needs... oxygen, walkers, medical supplies, etc. They received Medicare/Medicaid benefits, not US citizens. When they come from their country, they receive 1 year of benefits to "help" them get set up in the US. At the end of their year of benefits... they would return to their country for 1 month then return to the US, reinstating their benefits for another year. Thus, retaining their citizenship with their mother country and reaping our benefits in the US. When I called to verify benefits, I asked about this process. I was told to file claims and they were entitled to benefits.
So Obamas new healthcare reform wants to cut medical benefits to our disabled and elderly, US citizens? Now, who doesn't see the irony to that?
The issue is not foreignors but with the government. They are to protect the US not drain us. The people that will suffer are the ones that work and put into the system and when they are ready for benefits, the funds will not be there.
This was just one example of abuse to our system and I have seen so many more with different circumstances. So many loop holes and so many people taking advantage of the system. And I'm not talking about those that really need it... I'm referring to those that never put into it to begin with. The ones that think it's better to take than to give and they keep taking when some else needs it more. If your able to work... work! If your able to help... help! BUT don't take just to be taking... it's draining ALL of us! Even the ones that are doing the draining are being drained... what are they going to do when it's all gone?

Cool

My thoughts on this subject ....
The Feds can't stop drug smuggling, can't run Social Security right, etc. etc etc., just about anything they get involved in except the National Debt which will multiply by "God Knows What?".
What makes any one think they will be able to run health care??????
